Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

As a Business Apprentice, I support various business functions, my day-to-day involves learning about the business, assisting teams with tasks like creating presentations, managing customer inquiries, tracking data, and supporting administrative duties. I also help with financial tasks, document management, and contribute towards different projects. Throughout the apprenticeship, I gain hands-on experience and develop key skills in negotiation, communication, and project management etc.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy my apprenticeship, The chance to learn directly from experienced professionals is invaluable, and I feel like I’m constantly growing both personally and professionally. However, I do believe there is significant improvement required to the apprenticeship side of the programme including, better organisation, communication, record and document production and software tools.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

During my apprenticeship, I have developed key skills such as effective communication, project management, data analysis, and negotiation. I have also improved my financial management and time management skills, gaining hands-on experience in various business functions.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

In terms of Placements within the scheme, apprentices undergo 4, 6 month placements in different areas of the business over the course of the 2 year programme. Unfortunately, apprentices often find out their next placement with short notice making it difficult to plan in advance. From a learning perspective, there has been a multitude of miscommunication on the scheme so far.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

At BAE Systems, support is always available, whether its placement managers, skills coaches, functional leads, someone is anyways there to try and advise. Additionally, there is learner support and wellbeing support available as well as Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) for wider support.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

We receive a 100 page document with requirements and recommendations to pass the programme.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

N/A however the apprenticeship scheme provides broader opportunities in understanding the wider business through working in different business areas and having the support available.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
