Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My first placement involves being a systems engineer which means I work on the development and integration of the products BAE produce. This involves working with customers to define requirements, complete testing of the products and integrate the product where it will be deployed.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy my programme a lot as it is giving me real world experience into what my job may be like in the future as well as giving me a lot of opportunity to move around the business to find what I enjoy.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt a lot, including in depth knowledge of the v lifecycle as well as CAD and MATLAB. This is further supported in the fact I have learnt a lot about how businesses operate and the kind of tasks an engineer completes on the day to day.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

It is well structured into 6 6 month placements, then an 18 month exit role with time before placements to gain some business skills before being thrown in.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

We receiev a lot of support in our skills coaches, through early careers and our placement managers.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

This is also helped a lot by our company as the level 4 can be guided towards within our placements which is why most placement managers ask what kind of tasks you would like to complete so you can gain your qualifications.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

It means I strive to do everything and do detailed good work that reflects on me well, allowing me to learn and perform better as an engineer.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are lots of extra-curicular including: NGP, STEM Embassador, TECN and much more to get involved in.
