As a Project Control Degree Apprentice, you mainly focus at looking at the projects/programmes your working on from a cost, time and quality perspective. Day to day activities as part of the job include managing schedules, managing risk, managing cost and regular interaction with different stakeholders.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy my programme. Being able to see the business from different areas over the course of the 5 year apprenticeship exposes you to a wide variety of 'job roles' and allows you to work in different areas, gaining valuable skills, knowledge and experience in different areas. Getting the opportunity to work with different people within the business not only expands your network, but also allows for you to learn from them and develop in the workplace

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Since starting the apprenticeship i have learnt a lot of new skills. Before getting a place on the apprenticeship, i had little to no knowledge surrounding project management & controls so it has been a big learning curve.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

I have been a part of the first cohort to be part of the Project Controls Degree scheme, and it has been relatively well organised/structured. Attending university once a week on the same day each week helps structure the week and those running the apprenticeship get in contact regularly to ensure the programme is running smoothly and to help with any concerns you may have.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Support is available whenever needed - tutors take the time to allow you to book 1-2-1s where you can get help and discuss any concerns or queries you may have regarding university assignments or the course as a whole.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The majority of work learnt through undergoing a qualification is transferrable. Many of times i have attened university lectures and the content learnt has been transferred into my current placement within the workplace, helping me to develp as a project professional and allowing me to perform better in my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are activities to get involved in. Regular communication through emails from the apprentice council regarding extra curricular actives, e.g. sports teams and apprentice networking events.

Why?
BAE Systems is a great company to work for, you are well looked after in regards to pay and holiday entitlements and there is lots of room for career progression.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Be patient, the interview process can take a long time due to the volume of applicants
