Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Examples of key responsibilities or activities that I get involved with on a regular basis include stakeholder management, risk management, planning meetings, delivering presentations, managing budgets, creating business cases and creating project management plans.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I thoroughly enjoy my programme; the opportunity to be able to gain industry leading work experience whilst studying towards a degree is invaluable. I would recommend this scheme to anyone with an interest in project management and I would definitely recommend BAE Systems as a great employer.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have developed countless personal and professional skills throughout my time at BAE Systems. Examples of these skills are confidence, leadership, presenting, stakeholder management and personal/professional responsibility.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is very well organised. During term-time, degree apprentices typically attend university one day per week and then spend four days working on placement. The balance between studying and working is manageable and adequate time is provided for each.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

BAE Systems are a very supportive employer. Each apprentice is assigned a supportive skills coach who are there to provide support and guidance. Regular progress check-ins are also conducted.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The University of Cumbria are very supportive and there are several lecturers available to provide support throughout each module. Also, there are several ways available to obtain feedback from lecturers, for example via module question boards and having the ability to directly message lecturers if there are queries.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Throughout my scheme, there have been several links between placement and university work. I frequently use the knowledge developed throughout my university studies to help with my placement work and vice-versa.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

The apprentice team regularly encourage apprentices to take part in as many enrichment opportunities as possible as helps promote overall personal and professional development. Opportunities such as extra-curricular events, conferences and networking opportunities are regularly offered to apprentices.

BAE Systems are a fantastic employer to work for. The company has a strong culture and this is apparent within the workforce; people are proud to work for BAE Systems. The company will look after you and there are endless opportunities available, for example secondments and travel opportunities.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
I would advise you to conduct some research on the company, for example new projects that are taking place. Also, look into the company values, be confident in your answers and be yourself!
