Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Working with members of the business and external vendors to build learning content as required. Typically the learning is digital - either e-learning modules or video. This includes the full end-to-end lifecycle from ideation and discovery, to development of a learning solution, upload and testing and accessibility sign-off, as well as post-implementation review.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

So far I am overall enjoying the programme. I enjoy having opportunity to development within work, especially skills for the future. I've enjoyed the independent learning element through both the pre and post coursework as well as encouraging me to seek additional learning availability internally. I'm glad colleagues of mine are also on the course as enjoy the cooperation and working together.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I do not work with data on a regular basis, so the course has given me a number of new skills or reminded me of methods I have not used for some time. It has also supported independent learning and has been great interacting with new colleagues both within my own team and wider across HR.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

Generally the programme is well organised with a good amount of time to complete the pre and post coursework either side of the the workshop. Some of the initial content for the workshops was a little basic but I understand the need to have everyone on the course at the same level.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer has been great, first for encouraging us to participate if we felt it was beneficial and then since with supporting in resourcing the time to complete the 6 hours of work per week. I've also been able to reach out to colleagues and my manager for additional support and queries.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The training provider provides support via regular meetings with the coach and data mentor, plus additionally they are available as and when we require via mail and then, if needed, via meeting. There is also the option to raise queries to our fellow cohort with queries relating to a session.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I feel that arguably the skills arent necessarily helping as it stands as my amount of time spent with spreadsheets and use of data is limited, however so far I do believe the soft-skills continue to help, i.e. working independently, working with the wider team, managing workload etc. are very helpful.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are additional extra-curricular activities should you wish, including numerous Employee Resource Groups, however I dont choose to be part of these currently

Would you recommend HSBC to a friend?

Yes

Why?

I have been at HSBC for 18 years and will happily continue. The overall financial package is strong and there are a massive range of roles to suit most people.
