Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
Everyday I shadowed an auditor who taught me different things everyday, such as the day to day tasks of an auditor, the programmes they use and some real life examples of clients they had previously worked with and the kind of problems they faced/work they did for them. There was also a big meeting at some point throughout each day with all the interns to check in on us and make sure we were not having any problems.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was very helpful learning more in depth about the audit role from real auditors which I had never had the chance to do before, this insight made me even more excited about potentially joining PwC's audit team in the future. Furthermore the people I was shadowing set up meetings for me to speak to people in other lines of service such as consulting, which helped me better understand the different kinds of jobs PwC offer.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I learnt many new skills which are necessary for being a good auditor which I had never previously considered, such as professional skepticism. I also developed several existing skills, such as communication and teamwork. I was also able to put my leadership skills to the test after facilitating a small reflection meeting of about ten other interns. This involved bringing quieter people into the conversation and facilitating discussions about what people most enjoyed, found most challenging and what we learnt.

4/5
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Everyone was very friendly and welcoming, and answered all my questions in a thoughtful way. The company seems to have a fantastic culture of 'there is no such thing as a stupid question', which helped me feel more comfortable asking any question I thought of without the risk of feeling embarrassed. On top of this, regardless if I was speaking to an associate of a senior manager, everyone treated me like an equal and with respect.

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I loved it, it gave me a deeper understanding into PwC as a whole and also audit. I also enjoyed talking to and networking with people across all levels at PwC, who will be useful to have as connections in the future. This internship definitely made me feel more excited about joining PwC and audit, as it would be both enjoyable and a good way to start my career after I leave university in a few years time.

Yes
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC
Message as many people as you can on LinkedIn who are in the line of service that you are applying for. This gave me an edge in my interviews because I could share the insights those people gave me to show I already had some knowledge of audit, and it also showed that I had a genuine interest in it as I was going out of my way to find out more. Other important things include: learn the PwC values and demonstrate them in assessment centres, keep up to date with financial news and during group exercises try not to come across as overbearing or aggressive, and instead be polite and try to bring others into the conversation.
