Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
I am currently in my first year as a mechanical machinist. I am currently full time in college, from Mon - Fri, 37.5 hrs a week. I we have one full day of practical work in the work shop and two half days. The rest is theory and it is fairly easy.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I don’t love it but I do like and enjoy it.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I had an apprenticeship previously in a machinist role. So I already have a lot of knowledge. But I am not a master, so I have learnt quite a lot more than what I was taught previously.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Not bad, would be nice if things were more clear.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
A lot of support, but it just means that there is a lot to fix too.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
Fair amount, although the college has a lack of staff.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
It’s pretty good, I prefer my previous training provider. But for the resources this one has, it’s been very good.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes there is, but I haven’t been involved in them. (STEM ambassadors, apprentice council.)

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
High paying, set for life, amazing, a lot of movement within the business.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Don’t stress too much, don’t overthink it neither, especially on your first day. Don’t lie in your application process or security checks.
