I think I was given a lot of responsibility during my placement, which has given me a real feel of what it would be like to work full time in a business.
I was worried when I started that my role wouldn't be taken seriously as a placement student, but I have been treated like one of the team members.

I have become a lot more accustomed to using Excel and other Microsoft applications confidently.
I have learnt to communicate effectively with colleagues and external suppliers.
I have learnt how to prioritise tasks and manage my time efficiently.

Unfortunately, because of Covid and staff shortages, I didn't receive as much support / guidance at the beginning of my placement which has made me think I could have done better than what I have done in the past year.
The good thing about this though was that I have learnt to stand on my own two feet, ask questions and learnt to speak up if I am struggling.

I think I would have enjoyed the general atmosphere more had there not been a pandemic - there are quite a lot of departments working from home and they only come on site once a week so I haven't really had the chance to meet as many people as I could have.

I have enjoyed my placement because it has given me confidence, independence and skills that I don't think I would have grasped if I had had just had a "regular job" in a shop or in retail during my deferral year. I am also confident that this has left me in good stead for when I finish my degree because I have created my own network of contacts and relationships.
