Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
I'm doing a manufacturing engineering course at Furness College for a full school year. I was doing 5 days a week but this dropped to 3 days (Mon, Tue, Wed) at the end of February 2025 and for the final 2 days I've been but on placement in the business. When I'm on placement everyone is nice enough to help out and answer any questions I seem have.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
The overall experience at college has been poor but really enjoying my time on placement.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
As I'm still pretty new on placement its hard to say I've learnt any new skills yet as I'm being drip fed information which is good as they don't want to overwhelm me.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
1/5
It feels like the tutors at Furness College are making it up on the spot.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
More than I expected which is encouraging.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
1/5
Don't feel supported at college.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
Because its a very generic manufacturing engineering course only a small percentage is transferable. I wish i could be on a course that was more specific to my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
Haven't heard much.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Job for life.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
You might feel overwhelmed at the start but remember you're an apprentice for 3 1/2 years so plenty of time to take it all in.
