Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I am learning to be a electrics field engineer which is to maintain the equipment which runs out phone, mobile and broadband network in BT. Day to day I shadow my mentor on the daily jobs he has to carryout learning as I go. This is backed up with training course to improve me knowledge on different types of equipment
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy it very highly, I am learning every day and really enjoy the industry I have moved into.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes I have learnt a lot of new skills, through the training course I have done so far and working along side my mentor. Also developed existing skills for example communication and building your own personal network of colleagues.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

It is fairly well organised. There could have been some improvements when I first started with my onboarding/induction and perhaps slightly better organisation with the training courses.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

You are well supported, you are allocated a buddy/mentor who you work with day to day. Additionally you have your line manager to speak to and also the learn and development team.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The tutor from the provider is great, he is on hand to help with any questions and support you. I also have dyslexia and there is a separate person who checks in with and who I can contact to help support me with this difficulty.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

So far it's helpful for when it comes to the modern technology we are working on, and think as the course progresses it will continue to relate. However there are certainly aspects of the course that will not be relevant for when we are out of the apprenticeship l, it I do appreciate not everything can overlap
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes there are lots of different options from networking events, particularly with the other apprentices, to charity work which they allow time off for.

Would you recommend BT Group to a friend?

Why?
Since starting I have found them to be very supportive inclusive and the team I am working with are very friendly and helpful. The upper management seems to have a genuine interest in helping and furthering your career and it makes for a very satisfying working life.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT Group?
So your research about the company and understand the wide variety of careers there are here. Be prepared to learn, everyday there is a new challenge. And don't be shy to ask questions, it's important the understand what you are doing or what's being asked of you and you will be supported.
