Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Works with high horsepower engines. Updates fuel ratings, optimising efficiency and smpoke emissions. Controlling performance of engines and post processing engine-out data.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given responsibility to lead engine Emission Audits. This inviolved creating meetings and discussing actions moving forward with Engine Testing. I was responsible for communicating the conditions to bring the engine to, through the test engineers.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Developed communication skills alongside multitasking when balancing multipls tasks/ projects simultaneously. Learnt new softwares like Calterm and Concerto - also developed competency using Excel.

Support and Guidance
How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I was given a 'Buddy' who basically acted as my mentor throughout my placement. They would help with quyestions I might incurr day-to-day. My mentor left the company mid-way through my placement but my manager filled that role. I message him frequently on teams aswell as communicate issues I have via call or our weekly 1:1 to communicate and resolve my dilemmas.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Majority of my work was from home (which I wasn't previously aware of), so there isn't much of an atmosphere when all you can do is communicate via teams an d have no personal interaction. The chances that I did get to go on-site was fun, and I was always greeted with enthusiastic and friendly staff/ team members.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I very much enjoyed my placement. Even though I didn't get the opportunity to be as 'hands-on' as I'd have liked to be, I learnt an incredible amount of transferrable skills that will help boost my CV and prepare me for work in another role/company.

What advice would you give to others applying to Cummins
Make sure to properly review the job role before applying, and make the most of nmetworking/ gaining as much experience possible throughout the placement. Getting chance to work in other departments and speak to other people has been invaluable.
