Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Currently working on a flood defence framework. Role involves setting out works, surveying existing infrastructure, completing as built surveys and drawings, quality control documentation, health & safety and environmental monitoring and documents
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I mostly enjoy the site work, it is sometimes challenging but you are constantly learning and improving. I also enjoy the college blocks as you get the opportunity to socialise with the other apprentices. It is sometimes difficult to balance the uni work with site responsibilities but managers are usually willing to give you some time if you need.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Learnt engineering setting out and surveying skills from scratch in the first two years. Since then I have gained experience to further improve skills and taken on more responsibility to work independently. Also gained understanding of how construction contracts work and the processes.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Overall well organised, there are some areas for improvement mostly due to company reorganisation. However the early careers team are always open to recieving feedback to make improvements for future cohorts.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
Mostly very supportive, sometimes could be more communication but that is due to workloads of managers rather than people being unable to support you.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
The college have been very supportive and actively try to help you when working towards qualifications.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
There are only a few modules that directly link to site engineering. However the understanding is that a wide range of subjects and modules allows you to work in different roles outside of contracting after completing the apprenticeship.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Usually varies between sites but there are always social networking and professional networking
