Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Monday and Tuesday are days just in the classroom, we have started to do site tours on Tuesday afternoons and half the day on Wednesday is in the classroom and the other half is spent in the workshop. Thursday and Friday are spent within the workshop and we do the set tasks. There are multiple welding bays available as well and grinding bays and there are two burning bays.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I like the course and have fun in the workshop but the classroom work can be slow as the computers aren’t the best

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt to weld, burn, grind and how to correctly use lots of different hand tools. I have developed these skills with the help from tutors in the workshop and I am able to set up lots of the machines and burning and welding bays on my own.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Some things can be organised last minute and can be changed without warning, but after a few months it has become a lot more structured
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Lots, we have meetings with skills coaches who check how we’re doing and how we’re finding everything
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
We get lots of support and are able to go to them if you need any help
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
It helps me be safer and think about the risks that come with being in the workshop
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes but I haven’t been involved yet
