Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I work for the DWP's Economic, Serious and Organised Crime, ((ESOC) and Counter Fraud Compliance and Debt (CFCD). I am undertaking the apprenticeship to support my work within the department, which involves fraud investigations.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy my apprenticeship enormously. The content is well thought out and well delivered. The assignments are designed to make me think about the processes which are carried out within my department and underpin these.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I am learning the Law's and legislation surrounding the work of the department, to include how an investigation is carried out, working within the team, methodologies, the duties of a fraud investigator, mapping investigations, principles of fraud interviews, disclosure, constructing fraud reports.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

It is very well structured. The course was set out from the first day and there is ample support from Intelligencia.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive continuous support from my employer on a weekly basis.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The training provider has sessions that can be accessed every fortnight to ask questions. There is also the option for individual / one to one tutelage over the Microsoft Teams App, from my course leader.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

5/5

My qualification is helping me to understand conversations and meetings at my workplace, including supplementary law and legislation that is sometimes relevant in our investigative work, how to support the crown prosecution service, by providing clear and accurate data. My own and my colleagues mental health is also addressed.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

The Government Counter Fraud Profession (GCFP), share relevant updates which support my apprenticeship, Intelligencia also publishes a monthly with relevant cases and new stories to take note of.
I do quizzes in my spare time and also take on other 'off the job' interests.

Would you recommend Department for Work and Pensions to a friend?

Yes

Why?

I feel well supported in my role. The department cares for each employee and there are networks supporting all aspects of work and health. I have never had such a well supported job before, and I am most grateful to work for the DWP.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Department for Work and Pensions?

Be honest about your skills and experience. Do not 'put on' any false 'airs or graces'. Respect the people who you are working with. Remember your manners, be kind and think of yourself as part of the team.
