Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I'm a Logistics Apprentice, so my daily workload is heavily focused in this area. I spend a lot of my time shadowing others during the day, whilst also working on individual projects I have been tasked with undertaking. I attend meetings regularly and am heavily involved in the department.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I thoroughly enjoy my programme. I look forward to taking on new projects and tasks in the workplace, whilst also progressing with my university degree. The workload can be tough at times, but it is very rewarding when work is completed and delivered. I have a supportive team around me.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
During my placements, I have learnt lots of new skills relating to the work I carry out day to day. I have learnt how to use many company specific tools and applications. I have also learnt skills relating to how to behave and conduct yourself in a professional work environment.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
At the start, the placement plan and structure was very good, with clear goals and measured success. however towards the end of the apprenticeship, I noticed a large drop in organisation relating to workload and intended goals. I assume this relates to maturing within the business and gaining more independence.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
I receive a lot of support from the department I work in. I have regular meetings with my apprentice mentor and group leader. This gives me the opportunity to raise any concerns and find suitable outcomes. However, meetings with my apprentice manager has reduced over the course of the apprenticeship.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
Since joining BCU I have joined a larger group of students and the level of support has greatly reduced. Since finishing the taught modules and progressing to the final project, the support has reduced further. I am due weekly meetings with my BCU mentor, but he often does not attend.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
The course I'm completing at university very loosely relates to my day to day work. Sometimes there are modules that offer no relevance whatsoever, but the majority offer transferable skills. I have found this difficult as a logistics apprentice, rather than an assembly apprentice for which it relates much more.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
I am currently only involved in a weekly 5 a side football team, which has been organised amongst the interns and apprentices and some others. This did not exist at the start of my apprenticeship, but now happens every week. This was organised amongst ourselves with no involvement from BMW.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BMW Group UK to a friend?
Yes
Why?
BMW is a good company to work for. Despite it being a large international business, Plant Hams Hall offers a small company feel and it does not take long to get to know people and begin to fit in. There is always the opportunity to further your knowledge and career.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group UK?
My advice before applying would be to include as much information about your own skills and abilities. This will help determine if a job role is suitable for you or not. Also, practice your presentation and public speaking skills, as this can quickly become a large part of the apprenticeship.
