To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

Exceptional opportunity to tailor placement work in engineering departments of interest such as Aerodynamics, Thermal Management, Design, Structures, Weapon Systems, etc. to suit personal interests. Lots of exciting areas to work in across a variety of projects.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Technical engineering skills (Design, CAD, Simulation & Modelling, Thermodynamics, Fluid Dynamics, etc.), Personal time/ work management, Presenting skills.

As degree apprentices we are given a general placement plan that we are encouraged to tailor to our interests by reaching out to departments and arranging ourselves. This helps with building confidence, expanding our network, and learning about various areas within the business.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

BAE provides huge support and benefits to its employees. Apprentice management staff are available to support with any personal issues or aspirations.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Fully funded Aerospace Engineering degree along with lots of training opportunities dependant of work environment. BAE encourages employees to work towards further BAE funded qualifications to support work with no limit on the level. Further qualifications such as bachelors to PHD are common and advertised within the business.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Training provider provides basic understanding of Aerospace to support work at BAE. Most technical knowledge is learned from the job at BAE itself.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Many social clubs available including Flying clubs, Sports clubs, Technical clubs (site dependant). BAE Early Careers regularly advertises STRETCH assignments that are extra curricular activities to help support development. These include inter company engineering projects, supporting national schools, developing technology concept demonstrators, competing in engineering competitions or challenges.

Why?
Lots of opportunity for passionate, self driven people. Get involved in the design, development, and support of fighter jet aircraft among other BAE Systems AIR projects and their respective technologie. BAE Systems supports aspirational individuals by offering them development opportunities all across the world.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Show your passion for engineering, technology, aerospace as only having good grades does not distinguish you. Get involved in hobbies & projects outside of school or work that will start developing you as an engineer. Attend work experience, insight days, site visits if available as these show you are interested in BAE and the work we do.
