Junior Energy Manager Review

Im within Sustainability and Compliance Team within Facilities and my role is to see what actionable opportunities exist to reduce energy consumption to therefore reduce our carbon footprint. I create graphs of electricity and gas usage, track all offices consumption on a spreadsheet, look at and derive info from invoices, communicate with various global facilities managers. My role can have mathematical elements to it, creative elements, written and spoken elements too

Very well organised, Impact Academy are great! tutors are lovely and friendly, if needed tutors are willing to set time aside and help you with concepts you may be finding tricky. My lectures are once monthly for 2-3 hours and focus on a specific module all related to energy and energy management. I receive coursework off the back of the module which wil generally have multiple tasks, within 2 categories: research based tasks, then practical application of research/lecture in the office. This is really nice as I build on my knowledge and then can apply what Ive learnt in daily business operations.

PM is great with their apprentices, everyone in the firm is so lovely and understanding. The Early Talent Team are dedicated solely to apprentices and are here for any queries, concerns or information we may need. They regularly check up on us (more frequently at the start of the apprenticeship), which means apprentices always have a safe place if they are concerned about anything. My manager is AMAZING at supporting me through my studies. They are always willing to offer knowledge where they can or will point in the right direction of someone who may be more experienced e.g. onsite engineers in relation to system queries.

Aside from my lectures, we do not communicate with our tutors that much, it is very independent in that sense which I also really like because it challenges you and also makes you work more intuitively as you can organise and style your coursework however you want to. If I ever needed extra support, my tutor is very easy to reach and will schedule a quick 30 min session within the next couple days to get me back up to speed. I feel very satisfied with Impact Academy as a training provider as they are there to support when its needed but do not do all the hand holding as such, adding to that independent feeling

very very well! a lot of what i study directly links to my responsibilities in Business Operations so I can apply my knowledge about degree days when Im creating an energy review since I now know that a spike in energy may be justified if there are also a significantly high number of heating degree days needed. It definitely ties in great with my role because I can suggest actionable improvements that are aligned with building practices or legislation compliance etc.

Everything about it, the employees are placed at the forefront, the office culture is nice, everyone is friendly all the way to the very top seniors in the firm! They place lots of importance on employee mental health and education of different cultures for example, a nationwide Lunar New Year Presentation to teach and also celebrate Chinese New Year.
