Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role is to manage client expectations with primarily an emphasis on commercial however also touching on programme and project management. I am also involved with procuring trades and communicating with sub-contractors, ensuring all site works are encapsulated and checking design when doing so.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

My programme has been for the most part enjoyable. There have been moments for example in my first 4 years of the programme we had been left without a teacher on the educational side and this was not resolved for 3-4 months. This happened twice and there was little support from the college and employer during this time
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Since starting this apprenticeship I have learnt the importance of open communication and collaborative working within my construction teams.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

It has become a routine structure undertaking a mixture of block releases at university and coming back to work on a project. The only aspect that could be better would be a culture shift into existing employees as sometimes it can be hard to use the dedicated time BAM provide to undertake college work.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

It varies and depends on the colleagues around you. The immediate staff that you can see face to face are highly supportive and encouraging of ambition as long as you show a motivation to learn. There are other staff who are only ever seen virtually and as mentioned earlier it can impact the apprenticeship I.E: not having a teacher for months at a time
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My training provider offer drop in sessions for assignment questions outside of the standard block release, this has been very helpful in understanding the topics we are studying. They also provide a worked based learning coach and where this hasn't been provided they have quickly reacted to resolving the issue.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

For the most part is has been that my role has helped my qualification. There has been 2 units so far out of the 7 I have carried out where I have felt they have taught me about the role. This may change per person however based on exposure to responsibilities in the role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes I have been to FutureBAM events, Sports and Social events and project team building events
Recommendations & Advice
Would you recommend BAM to a friend?
Yes
Why?
They are a suitable company who win works reliably and can provide sufficient training to newcomers in the industry. I have often found in my time at university that BAM apprentices tend to have a greater understanding of the construction industry than other competitors at the same educational level.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAM?
Show enthusiasm and understand that everyone may have a different approach to situations however there is often a method of using a piece of everyone ideas to create a fully comprehensive solution.
