Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Currently in a CAD based rotation, so my day to day role is helping the design lead with CAD designs and drawings that are being used for superseding designs like engine components and ensuring they are up to date and to see if they can be improved
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy the apprentice programme very much, I am going towards the end of the scheme now and I have learnt a lot from every department I have been in, which gives a very good insight on what the business does from each side of the company

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt lots of different skills being through so many rotations, like workshop techniques, CAD Skills, problems solving skills like 7step, FMEA, as well as communication skills, as well as have to present to all the apprentices what we have been doing and what we have learnt ever week

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I think the programme has become more structured over the time I have been here as new management has taken over the apprentices, as it is more structured to our future and passing the scheme rather than fitting as many rotations in as possible.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
We have regular weekly meetings with our manager to discuss any problems and go over our progress and talk about the KSBs and how we have been hitting them
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
We have 12 week reviews with our training provider and he goes over how we are getting in with qualifications and work progress
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
A lot of the topics we learn at college are related to what we do at Cummins, for example calculations gearbox ratios and stress/ strain testing as this is something we do a lot here
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
We have EEEC events which is helping lots of communities in Darlington, where we would go to primary schools and help them maintain the play areas due to a lack of funding from or teaching kids about STEM and engineering to help them get an insight on their future.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Cummins to a friend?
Yes
Why?
You learn a lot about the business and due to the amount of rotations you go into, it helps to work out how you want to plan your future as a lot of people don’t actually know what they want to specialize in, this apprenticeship can aid that
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Cummins?
Be confident, and a team player as Cummins is all about working well in teams
