my role as an electrical fitting apprentice is to gain knowledge and skills that will help me in my journey through the company, this typically involves different lectures and workshop based lessons as well as writing reports and essays for proof of learning.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

Thus far in my apprenticeship i have very much enjoyed the content involved in it and the tasks i have been required to complete, however there has been a lot of dead time and days spent doing nothing as well as a significant lack of information on the structure of our course and what it will look like going forwards.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

i have significantly strengthened and developed my workshop skills and my knowledge and understanding of electrical principals and the workings of electrical systems

How well organised/structured is your programme?

when we have assignments and tasks assigned the structure is well organised, however throughout the apprenticeship both myself and other classmates have agreed that overall our course has been quite poorly organised, days spent doing nothing as stated previously, an unclear view of what to expect next in the course and it also took a matter of months after joining before starting any work relevant to our course, it is only since our new instructor has come in and started to push more to better structure the course and eliminate dead time that things have improved.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I have had a very positive experience in terms of support from my employer, anything i have been unsure about or uncomfortable with i have been given assistance with, and regardless of any issue that may arise i feel comfortable knowing where to go with my queries.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

the training provider offers a great amount of support in our learning and studies working towards gaining our qualifications.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I have not yet finished the apprenticeship so i cannot yet say for certain, however i feel confident in saying that the qualification gained from this apprenticeship will greatly benefit me when exiting into the company and the end of the course.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

we have been given a handful of opportunities for extra curricular activities, however i have not chosen to take part in any of them

It is an incredibly supportive and positive working environment with many great benefits, and BAE systems will guide and aid you throughout your learning and help you achieve academic and/or career goals and support you all the way
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Put your all into it, as you will only ever get out as much as you put in. take any opportunities given to you and make an effort in networking throughout the company and getting to know as many people as you can.
