2.8/5 - Structure and Support

Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
Extracting data, making it make sense and visualising it
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
The programme is OK, it is very much geared towards helping younger people get into the world of work and as an older apprentice, a lot of the content is not relevant for me.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
Yes, lots of ways in which to manipulate data, coding skills for managing large data sets, organising data, different types of data

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
1/5
Some parts are well organised, others are not at all. The days at the learning centre work well, but the information outside of this is sparse and not very cohesive. The online learning in particular is very poor, watching older videos rather than anything interactive.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
My employer has been great in supporting my time to do this course. It felt at times like my role was mis-aligned with what I was being taught, but I understand the business reasons behind this.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
Sporadic. My mentor was running through the motions when reviewing my work and it was clear they were not reading the content, which felt a disengenious when receiving feedback. Again, support in the learning centres was great, outside of this (which was the majority of time), it was not.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I started this apprenticeship as a way of reskilling into a new role / area and the apprenticeship has helped a great deal with me doing that. I feel like I've got a good level of knowledge now that I can hold my own in that area and can look for a career.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
The apprentice community at my work is very active, with lots of calls, chats and meet ups organised, which is really good to see. It is well supported by senior managers in the organisation as well. It is (rightly so) geared towards helping younger people get used to the world of work, which isn't something I need as an older person, but I really like to see that available to people and it's a strong offering by the company.
