Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Supporting colleagues with security queries and developing security dashboards that give managers and stakeholders visibility of areas of concentrated risk so they are better informed in decision making.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I have found this the most challenging period of learning as a mature student. I have really enjoyed learning something completely different and very technical and proved to myself I have transferrable skills from other roles that can bring security to life for non technical colleagues.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I was completely new to IT and security so I have learnt skills in risk management, technical and physical security, policies, education and awareness, controls, defence in depth, attack vectors.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

There’s a lot involved in this particular course and it was good that the external certifications were included in the apprenticeship so I was able to achieve 2 certifications on CompTIA network and security. I feel that as I am part time it could have been scheduled slightly differently but that could have been down to the others in my cohort.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Excellent support from immediate team and wider team. We have a designated Apprentice hub that supports candidates and ambassadors that are previous apprentices to offer support and mentorship
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Excellent support from my learning mentor who was consistent throughout. He understood my circumstances and we built a very good relationship throughout.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Having technical knowledge acquired in the apprenticeship allows me to bring security to life for non technical colleagues and helps to shape security decisions for the good of the business taking into consideration the pace at which emerging technologies are advancing.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

We are very lucky to have many networks that support colleagues development. Women in technology network was the reason I found out about the apprenticeships.

Be your authentic self. Ask questions, make connections and think about your personal brand. What makes you unique from those around you? Be passionate about your self development and never go for a job just for the salary or title.
