Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Maintenance management of naval ship systems. Involves customer meetings, defect resolution, material state awareness and management of up to 300 jobs/tasks.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
The work side of the program has been fantastic. However, we as a cohort collectively had issues with our academic delivery.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes, skills developed in communication, academic, technical and critical thinking mainly.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The program has been confusing at times with lack of communication around placements, contracts and education levels.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
My employer provides plenty of resources for support.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
1/5
There was a lack of communication in our lesson delivery and I felt there was avoidance from our tutors when reaching out. The typical response time was 3-4 days, if at all. I definitely had to chase tutors frequently.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
I think we need to be well educated but I think studying to Level 5 would have been beneficial for the apprenticeship.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes all of the above

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
i think working in a large company is a great starting position for careers, the support and networks you build are worth it. I would recommend the company over the particular apprenticeship, once you in the company there are copious opportunities available to you.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Use the STAR method in application.
