Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Software Engineering degree apprentice, working in different placements every 6 months alongside managing University work. I spend 3 days a week on placement and the other 2 days are assigned for University.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I've really enjoyed the program. There is a good balance between university, diploma and placement work - enough time is provided to complete university and diploma work. This allows to me to live a happy work life balance.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Massively developed my professional skills, and my software engineering capability. This is through networking with other employees, engaging in meetings, and attending work events. My coding ability has developed through completing work on placement and learning throughout my degree.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
*answered this in previous question*
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
With regards to wellbeing, diploma, and university, I have a dedicated skills coach to talk to. My skills coach is always personable, approachable, and makes time to talk. On placement, I refer to my respective line managers who are all used to dealing with apprentices.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
**answered in previous question**
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
My qualification massively helps me perform in my role. This is as not all placements are software intensive, meaning that if my work doesn't consist of much programming, I'm still developing through my university work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There are a plethora of different societies/groups which you can join to develop professional skills (including different work with other companies and networking events). There isn't any formal sports teams that I'm aware of.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Good pay for an apprentice, flexible working (both in terms of time and location), clear progression path
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Be yourself, display your personality rather than just a sheet of exam results. If you've completed any personal projects make sure to include them, it's all about you as a person, not as a robot.
