Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My current placement involves testing such as acceptance testing and unit testing. I also have a day to complete diploma work and write logs on the tasks that I have completed.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

The work that I have completed on placement has been really enjoyable. I get to work on real tasks to help my team and the project. University with UCLAN is not as enjoyable due to lecturers leaving and having last minute replacements.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

This apprenticeship has allowed me to develop my skills in programming as well as other soft skills like team building, leading, etc. Since we rotate placements every 6 months, you get to learn different ways of working in different teams.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The placements are structured and are already organised ahead of time. However some placements may change and it can be hard to find work to do. University can be disorganised with the lack of tutors and assignment deadlines being so close together.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Early careers provide a lot of support for work. I am able to easily reach out to them if I am struggling with diploma or any other work related reason. Work is quite accommodating so it is really easy to reach out if you need that extra support.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Some university tutors are easy to contact, however some are slow when it comes to replying to emails. Many tutors will tell you their preferred contact method whether its emails or teams messages.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The programming practice from my university assignments has helped me develop the problem solving skills and logic for my work within my placements. Some modules such as security aren't used within work but the knowledge is still useful to know.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

We had to complete outward bound which was a week of completing outdoor teambuilding activities such as raft building and orienteering. There are also opportunities to travel to different events which gets paid for.

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is an opportunity to complete a degree and a level 4 diploma whilst getting real life experience. This allows you to build a really strong CV. You are also guaranteed a full time job as an employee after your apprenticeship finishes.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Be yourself and show your passion for software. Even if you don't have much prior experience, you still learn everything you need to to complete university and your work.
