Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
As Part of my role I work on software related products. I could be gaining software requirements, making designs, implementing code or reviewing code. I work in an AGILE manner. I also work on enrichment projects along side my university studies for my degree and my Level 4 Diploma.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I love every bit of my programme. The work I do as part of my placements is exactly what I want to be doing within a career.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I've developed my team working skills and developed confidence in my own abilities. My programming and problem solving skills have developed throughout the apprenticeship. I've gained a lot of soft skills related to working in a professional business and within the industry.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is structured between Level 4 Diploma, EPA and University studies for the Degree. The degree is done on campus in preston 2 days a week during university term time. The level 4 diploma is completed alongside placement work and typically spent half a day work on it.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive as much support as I've required. I've never been denied support. When I've needed it, it's been there.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
The support isn't the best in some areas depending on who the lecturer or lab tutor is at university.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
I'm unsure how much impact the content at university impacts my work. I feel as though my placement work impacts my university work more. However through university I have seen slightly different approaches to how I can work, one example is Test Driven Development, and this is a practice I want to bring back to my placement work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Yes there are. There are multiple groups aimed specifically at apprentices in the company and with partners that allow for networking events and socials. I don't know if there are any sports teams though. We also have enrichment projects as well.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Great company to work with. Some great benefits. I enjoy the flexible working via flexi-time policy. Never felt under-appreciated or anything less because I was an apprentice.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Be yourself. The company wants to hire the person not a statistic. You need certain qualifications to get your foot in the door, after that they want to know about you.
