Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
As a first year, we spend it all in college, so our day to day roles are all educational at the moment. During half terms, we were able to go into plant and experience some placements around the factory. Some of the subjects we are learning include hydraulics, mechanical maintenance and workshop skills, such as lathe and milling.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I've really enjoyed my experience so far, the teachers make lessons very interactive and fun, there are lots of opportunities to push yourself out of your comfort zone. There is a nice balance of written assignment work and hands on practical, with the teachers being well qualified to support.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
My background was in office work, and all my A levels were in written subjects, so everything I've learnt so far has been completely new to me, as I have no prior experience in the engineering field. I've learnt skills such as engineering based maths and lots of hands on skills, such as electrical maintenance and bench skills. It also helps develop existing English skills, as writing assignments is a big part of the course.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is very well structured, with each college term being broken up into blocks. Each block will have 4 days of level 2 AME, and one level 3 BTEC day, meaning we do 4 AME subjects a week, and 3 subjects on BTEC day, giving us lots of variety day to day.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Our employer is very supportive, from talking us through all the processes at the start of the apprenticeship, to always being available over text or email. We get weekly visits from our manager, and she will always be able to answer any questions regarding the apprenticeship, college and any specific business questions.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
We receive lots of support from our training provider, the teachers are always willing to help us through assignments, assessments and any other issues we have. We have a manager within the college, who can be reached any time we're in college. Sometimes we have some unanswered questions, but usually they can be resolved within a few days.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
They help us a lot to perform better, they give us access to amazing resources, such as a fully kitted out workshop, high end equipment, lots of revision resources and teachers who are highly qualified in the field. The teachers are always able to answer any questions we have, and support us with assignments.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are multiple activities as apprentices that we can take part in. As a first year, I was able to join the 'Charity Champions' team, where I was able to contribute ideas into a team meeting, where we raise money for the company charity. We also have an apprentice football team, who meet up once a week to play.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BMW Group UK to a friend?
Yes
Why?
They are a very supportive employer who always push us to better ourselves, with opportunities to get further qualified later on in the apprenticeship. The application process is easy, with application centres being enjoyable, and giving you the opportunity to meet your potential manager. There is lots of opportunities within the apprenticeship, such as the move abroad scheme, charity champions team and the opportunity to speak at schools.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group UK?
Prepare well for all levels of the interview, competition is high and the job is demanding, but it is worth all of the effort. Be yourself, showing your personality in the interview process shows them you are human, and it will allow you to build strong relationships throughout. Put lots of effort in, they will notice!
