Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
In our first year, we spend everyday at college, learning a variety of different subjects and during half terms we go into work on placements. From our second year until our final year, we complete several placements around work, learning new skills and meeting new people and spend one day a week at college.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy the programme a lot as I have met lots of people and have been able to gain new friendships and connections and have also been able to enjoy learning new skills at college and being in a workplace environment. It's gave me independence and I am excited to gain more knowledge and get into the workplace full time.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt many new skills, including bench work and operating machines such as lathes and milling machines. I have also learnt knowledge in electrics and have been able to wire circuits. I have learnt more theory subjects such as mechanical principles and materials. I have never done engineering before so therefore this was all new to me and has been exciting to learn.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is very organised as we know when we are expected to be in college and when we are expected to be in work. I have already had my placements for the next 4 years sorted so therefore I know what I'm going to be doing over time. Our subjects at college are organised and we have enough time in each subject to complete all work.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Every week our manager comes to college to check on us and sort any issues we may be having. We are able to message our manager if we have any questions and these are quickly resolved. Our employers are very supportive and always ensure we are happy and feel confident within any tasks we take on.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Our training provider is BMet and we get lots of support in all our subjects as the tutors are always willing to help with anything we may be finding difficult. We can message our tutors using Teams if we have any questions and these are always responded to quickly. The workload is manageable and we have plenty of time to complete work.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Our qualifications mean we have gained lots of experience working with machinery and understanding how to be safe in a engineering workplace environment. This allows us to perform better in our role as we already have background knowledge in Health & Safety, which is important in the workplace and we have knowledge in the machinery so therefore can understand tasks at work more easily.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
At work, there are many extra-curricular activities we can get involved in such as bake sales, football teams, charity events that we can get involved in. Our employer also allows us to complete school visits where we can go around schools and share our experiences and discuss with students what our apprenticeships consist of and help students with their applications.

Would you recommend BMW Group UK to a friend?
Yes
Why?
BMW Group is a very supportive employer, who care about their apprentices and make sure we get the best start in our careers. Our training provider has allowed us to gain many new skills and increase our confidence in using machinery that some of us have never used before. During our career, our employer push us to complete work to the best of our ability and work up to higher levels in the workplace.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group UK?
Be confident and express your personality to show BMW Group who you are. Answer any questions in as much detail as you can and remember to ask questions yourself so you receive as much information as you can about your role. Make sure you can work well in a group and don't be afraid to put yourself out there.
