Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
2/5
Testing military equipment through the use of test specification and learning a broad range of skills to do so.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I enjoyed the people that I met and some of the work I conducted. I found that the people I worked with were fantastic, and some parts of the work have been really interesting.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
2/5
I have learnt a lot of skills but I feel if more recourses were put into helping me through and moving me around the business I could have learned significantly more.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
1/5
This apprenticeship on the Isle of Wight considering the breadth of Bae Systems has absolutely no structure here in test. In the further reaches of the manufacturing department the same can be said. The structure is non existent.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
1/5
Support from my employer is also poor. My line manger is not in a position to properly facilitate my needs as an apprentice and I have been left on my own for a large portion of my time.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
1/5
I receive a small amount of feedback on the job report I have been doing. The quality of the feedback is varied and inconsistent and I struggle to amend what has been said.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
I feel like my own motivation in work has helped me look to a future were I can perfect and hone my craft as a test engineer. I would not say the training provider has provided this for me.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
No

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The pay is okay, the facilities are nice. On the Isle of Wight you would struggle to find a better long term job in a permanent position- in electrical engineering.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Ask what the job entails from top to bottom, and what sort of educational structure is in place to facilitate those needs.
