Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Currently on placement with a quality team so my role is to review procedures and Inspection test plans that have been submitted to us to make sure they are to the correct specification to ensure the project is to a high quality. Regular communications with team and stakeholders.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
Really enjoying my programme, all teams members are welcoming and helpful with settling into placement and with any questions or help needed. Lots of support given by functional leads on helping with training plan and other apprenticeship tasks that need to be completed someone is always happy to help.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Developed communication skills and this is done in many different ways emails, face to face meetings & online meetings, this is done with team members and also apprenticeship catch ups that are done once a month. Software skills have developed as these are frequently used in day to day work.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Our Programme is slightly different to other apprenticeship programmes as we don't spend a day at college/university like others do. Our training is provided to us as and when it is available, so it's nice how the training varies and at times you could spend three days a week training but then not have any for a little while which gives you time to concentrate on actual work within your placement
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
There is plenty of support available from a number of different people. You have skills coaches and functional leads who can help you with anything to do with your apprenticeship and any questions you have about your trade. Line managers are also really helpful for day to day questions, or if they don't have the answer they always know someone who does. When you settle into your placement any team member or other apprentices on your placement are also really helpful. Support all round.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
As mentioned previously there has been plenty of support. Our functional lead and skills coaches are always keeping us up to date with and courses and training that is available to us. Their always available for calls if needed and are more than welcoming making it easier to ask questions when needed.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
All training we receive is relevant to our apprenticeship and there is even some additional training involved within some of the placements. For example I received training for a software for my first placement that I would use daily but this isn't noted on my training plan.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
We have catch ups with our cohort which is arranged by our skills coaches, this allows us to connect with others who are on the same apprenticeship as us. Throughout our apprenticeship we have the opportunity to complete stretch activities which allows us to connect with other within the business. There are also apprenticeship social events that we are made aware of via email

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
A great place to learn whilst earning a wage with plenty of opportunity within the business after your apprenticeship. So many helpful people within the business who are more than happy to help you or can point you in the direction of someone who can help. Even though we are apprentices nobody looks down on you and you are made to feel like an equal which makes working here very easy and comfortable
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Research the business and it's future plans. If you know someone who works in the business ask them questions to see if it is the right fit for you. Any links that BAE send to you are useful and are worth having a look through. Practice the STAR technique for interview questions and be yourself.
