Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My day to day role includes the maintenance and repair of die tools which involves techniques such as grinding and welding. Jobs can include scenarios such as TMS's, which is preplanned maintenance, breakdowns, where you have to find solutions to problems while the die is in the press, and other modification jobs.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
the programme is generally very enjoyable as i enjoy the work and there is plenty of support to get you thorugh the paperwork side of things, sometimes however it feels like there isnt much work to do and days can feel slow so some days you dont learn as much as you could.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
There have been many new skills that i have developed throughout the apprenitceship, including hard skills such as welding, machining, etc. but also i have devloped my communcation and interpersonal skills, this has allowed me to have a fulfilling apprenticeship and i have developed as a person to become a better worker.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
the apprenticeship is organised in a general way quite well as we have 3 month placements and move around the company to gain exposure to different areas, on a more specific level however sometimes it feels like there just is not enough dedicated time to actually learning the job, instead we may get given repetitive jobs that other people just dont want to do.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
a lot of support is provided from the employer as we have weekly meetings to discuss our progress where we get the opportunity to bring up any issues we may have or if we need more support with anything, we also can text or call whenever we have an issue.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
the training provider is effecgtive at giving us the information that we need but sometimes the delivery of that information doesnt suit everyones learning styles, generally however i think the support provided from our college is good and they are helpful and easily accessible through teams if we do need help outside of a college day.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
the qualification does provide a decent amount of information to help us performour role better, such as CAD which can help if you are going to go into a machining placement within work, robotics can also be helpful if you are a maintenance engineer, some units however feel less relevant.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
there are many extra curricular activities to get involved in such as the charity team, there are also numerous career events done throughout the year which i have taken part in, various networking events also take place such as visits to other sites which can help you gain more insight into BMW as a whole.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BMW Group UK to a friend?
Yes
Why?
there are many benefits that the company offers, such as a relatively high pay package with regular bonuses as well as a strong pension scheme. the work culture is also generally quite good with positive people who are usually very helpful. the employer is also very good at providing assistance or guidance when needed.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group UK?
take pictures of any projects you do at home so that you can make a presentation out of it when applying, it would also eb beneficial to practice as many interview queestions as possible so that you are not caught offguard with any difficult questions, and also be confident and make sure you speak up during group activities on assesment days.
