Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I work in Bereavement Support Payments, processing applications when a person's spouse or co-habiting partner passes away. I contact customers and undertake relevant checks before ensuring customers are paid money if they are entitled to it. Whilst on the apprenticeship I am examining and developing my customer services skills to provide the best service I can for customers and to reflect positively on DWP.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I am enjoying it and finding the support given through the programme is brilliant. DWP is very good at allowing me the time to complete my apprenticeship day and access additional training I am interested in.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
On the apprenticeship thus far I have learnt how to create my PDP, the importance of different aspects of customer service and the ways in which we can focus on these. This area is limited at present as I am only 2 months into my programme, but so far it has been enjoyable and useful in building my confidence.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Very well organised.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
There is wider support like allowing me the time to complete the apprenticeship work and access additional training that I am interested in; unfortunately my line manager is currently absent and has been unable to provide support; luckily the deputy team leader is brilliant, she is supportive, interested and will discuss what I am doing and learning.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
[This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the Higherin Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] has been great in offering guidance and reminders when I've forgotten what I'm doing (due to being on A/L) as well as support and feedback when I check in to make sure I am on task. Contact is good and consistent, and never made to feel like a burden.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I think it will build my confidence and also help me explore other ways of dealing with customers in difficult situations.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Occassionally, bring a dish, switch off afternoons (couple of hours away from computers to do a quiz or activity as a group or individually, group being encouraged).
