Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I take an active role in my team. We have a daily catch-up meeting at 9am where we discuss progress, blockers and the next steps in our tasks. This is also a time to ask for more/different work. The team is fairly receptive to letting me learn and help out in different tasks. I attend meetings throught the day and have time to complete the coding tasks. i log off about 4pm.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
The program is pretty good. I like that i am a university student and make full use of all the societies and events on campus. The course is varied and interesting most of the time. and work is understanding of my studies and accomodates study days and any concerns i have. overall having a great time

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I'm in my final year now and i have learnt so much. In first year i had no idea how to interact in the corporate setting now i am planning and leading meetings that gain business value. Uni has taught me the computing concepts and work has taught me the vital soft skills for my career

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
It does not have the best organisation but is improving every year. Back in 2021 the first team i was placed in i had no interest in and they took 6 months to move me into a software based team where i thrived. The uni side of things is quite well organised, i was ready to start my final year project and my personal tutor has supported me at every step
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
They are very understanding of my studies. I get every friday off to complete uni work, if there is a mandatory meeting on friday i am flexible with my study hours. When a large piece of coursework is due my manager is amazing and lets me have extra study time if needed. They are also receptive to the work based projects i must complete and are more than happy for me to lead mini projects.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
The personal tutors are great and are always there to listen. Over the years we have learnt that they dont always know whats going on though, information can change very quickly and there are sometimes problems spreading this around the course and tutors.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
The most helpful module has been the business modules. Here we learnt business theory as well as management and improvemtn ideas. These were fascinating to see in paractice and makes me consider them and improve my teamwork, leadership and project handling. Most of the other modules gave us basic crucial info in the computer science space but dont really apply at work. In my team we work on very specific use cases so only general coding principes carry over
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
I've been to the odd Early Careers social. But i found people through the University lead events are much more friendly and offer a wider range of activities.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend JLR to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The company allows you to get involved and can move you around teams if you are not fitting in. Their collaboration with warwick uni for this degree apprenticeship is amazing and i would reccomend this course to anyone looking to have a career in tech.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JLR?
You will have lots of responsibilites from work, to uni, to relationships and activities/hobbies, youve got to understand that you will be very busy. Think of ways to manage the time and have your priorities in order before thinking seriously about applying. There is often allot of dropout in the first 2 years from people not understanding the massive workload and cannot handle the pressure. But if you can handle it you will thrive and have the most amazing years. I have been part of the leadership of a society at warick uni and you will not be missing out on the 'uni experience' at all!
