Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My role is to measure components on measuring machines to get dimensions that can be compared to the engineering drawing or CAD model. We check that the part is in the tolerance that the Engineer is wanting or to look into a area that has failed a test and we look into the area and see if we can see a issue in the design that made this issue happen.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I am extremely enjoying the programme. There is so much support that is there if it is needed. The people around me in my role and in the early careers team are very supportive and encouraging me to push myself to my limits as that's where how I will improve.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt so much more than I came in with including knowing about different parts on an engineering drawing (Flatness, Roundness, etc.) that are used in my role. I have also developed more skills on the 3D printer that is being used to create fixtures from the machines instead of the metal fixtures that they don't have as many as they would like.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I believe that the programme is structured well with things in place to make sure that we get the best out of the apprenticeship. There is a clear layout of what is happening over the time that I am in my apprenticeship and in my department, there is a structure where I'm needing to go around all the machines and get to a certain level of knowledge just so I have an understanding what the machine does and it's benefits.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
There is so much support from JLR with people there to help and support if any issues. If there are any projects that need to be completed for college, JLR are more than happy to allow that work to be completed in work time and there is people there that would support me and help if i was struck.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
There is somewhat support from the training provider. We are only there 1 day a week to do the Maths and Physics part of the Apprenticeship. It is helpful for learning about the theory on engineering but it isn't something that we do in my department. But it is a good thing to learn.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
During the 1 day a week doing the Maths and Physics part of the Apprenticeship, I don't feel that it helps the job that I'm in. It is helpful for learning about the theory on engineering but it isn't something that we do in my department. But it is a good thing to learn.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are many different extra curricular activities that I could join the JLR. I'm currently getting information for the JLR Karting as I would like to join them. There is lots of opportunities to meet new people and get involved in different activities.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend JLR to a friend?
Yes
Why?
JLR is a supportive and friendly company to work for. Everyone is very nice and just wants you to be your aesthetic self no matter what that may be. There are so many people that want you to do well and reach your personal goals. The facilities are good and there are a range of different jobs that cover every basis of any job. I would totally recommend to a friend.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JLR?
Some advise that I was told when I was applying is that I have got to believe in myself that I can do it. If you push yourself out of your comfort zone you will achieve more. If the role that you are applying for sounds something that you would be interested in but it comes across way out of your comfort zone then go for it! Believe in yourself and don't listen to outsiders. There are people there that can support you.
