Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
2/5
Design electrical wiring geometry in CAD, including routing wires and inserting clips and connectors.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
There is plenty of social opportunity at university and with other degree apprentices as there are a large number of us within JLR.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
2/5
Yes, I have learnt how to use CAD and learnt some electronic and electrical principles. Significantly less learning that I was expecting/compared to the traditional university route.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
1/5
There was very little preparation done for our onboarding. More effort could have been taken to get us inducted both into work and university faster.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
There is plenty of support available if you ask for it.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
There is enough support online and via teams to reach out to lecturers and mentors.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
In the first two terms, modules have been relatively uninspiring and slow, or challenging for the wrong reasons due to ambiguity and poor teaching.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, there are many for all sorts of activities.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend JLR to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is overall a good opportunity and sets you up for the future compared to traditional university, despite some drawbacks. In future I imagine it will improve greatly in these aspects and throughout the course it slowly improves to be more mentally stimulating and enjoyable. JLR in particular has such a large intake of graduates and apprentices that there is always something to do.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JLR?
Focus mostly on your practical experience in interview. The interviewers are external and know relatively little technically about the role you will be in. Show that you have strong design skills and team skills (even if you may not believe you do).
