Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Each day is unique, I could be working in the office in front of a laptop for several hours or be out on site using GPS and other equipment to carry out tasks - dependent of rain or sunshine. All in all it is a role with much variety.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy it very much. The variety between working on a construction site and block-release learning at university is all very exciting and allows me to grow my skills and knowledge. The people are lovely in all aspects and areas and so there isn't anything to complain about.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I've become very knowledgeable in construction processes and procedures, in safety, in using technology and setting out equipment, and I have developed my communication skills. A lot of the job is being able to communicate with people, find out things, or relay information.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

There is a lot of support within BAM and with our education provider to ensure that we succeed. It is a well structured and coordinated effort that they are constantly refining and reviewing by getting our opinions on matters and checking our welfare.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

There is a lot of support from BAM with my colleagues as I have a mentor and supportive coworkers, but I also have the other apprentices I can go to. The people that coordinate the apprenticeship scheme have regular catch ups with me and the other apprentices also which are very beneficial.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

There are a lot of support given to us by our lecturers as they are brilliant teachers but they also point us in the right direction for what resources to use when doing self directed studying. They can be contacted at any time and there are learning spaces provided at the university so support studying.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

By learning in the academic settings I am able to come back to work more knowledgeable in certain areas which I can apply to what I am currently doing in my role. The degree course and the site based work compliment each other very well.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are many networks in place to try and get people involved and encourage networking. There are several charity events, challenges and social occasions throughout the year that I can participate. Volunteering is highly encouraged within BAM and they even offer a day off to allow people to volunteer for something of their choosing or a BAM charity event.

Would you recommend BAM to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The company has a great community spirit about it and people are very friendly. It is a place I most certainly would recommend people work.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAM?
It is a company looking to leave a legacy and a positive social impact behind, if that is something you want then BAM Nuttall is for you. They actively seek outgoing people who are social, excel in communication, and hard workers.
