Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Performing a wide variety of audit related tasks, with a large amount of autonomy. From obtaining bank confirmations, to testing operating expenses or the PPE depreciation expense.
Daily team meetings and client meetings were both the norm, allowing for good exposure to those higher up in PwC and the client.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
A lot.
The audit work gets assigned out and then everyone completes their own tasks and has a lot of autonomy over their work. When work is reviewed, any issues or outstanding points are returned to you to resolve, helping your development.
Managing studying for the ICAEW ACA exams is also left primarily to you. This large responsibility for your own personal development is a key one in your time at PwC.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Many.
My communication and confidence have increased substantially through my various interactions with the client and team.
As a result of the autonomy allowed to complete one's own work, my problem solving ability has also improved greatly.
To manage studying for ICAEW ACA exams alongside client work, also requires a large amount of organisation and hard work.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Very supportive and team-oriented. Many events and socials were organised by the office as well. There were numerous diversity initiatives, sports clubs, etc. within the firm due to its size.
'Dress for your day' involves wearing what you see fit for the day ahead - if at a bank's client site this might be a suit. Whereas if in the office all day this can be jeans and trainers.
'Summer working hours' involves working a little overtime each day of the week to get your work done, and then finishing at midday on a Friday for three summer months of the year.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
Great experience within a very supportive organisation. Moving from university to the workplace felt like a natural progression as there were no real shocks or large differences. The company feels quite like a university given its size, opportunities, sports clubs, and the like.

Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to PwC
Understand the firm's cultures and values. What does the working life at PwC really involve? It's different from other places, and so may not be right for everyone, and may be briliant for others.
Be willing to work long and hard hours when the time comes, but at other times benefit from a large amount of flexibility.
