Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

As a project coordinator apprentice my day-to-day role involves assisting the project manager to ensure each project runs smoothly. I am dealing with Raid logs (Risks, actions,issues,dependencies) as well as working with stakeholders from Germany and France. The role is more intriguing then it sounds as you are able to gain experience on a vast amount of projects including different countries, through shadowing the project manager and taking over if they are absent.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I would recommend the programme to anyone. Computacenter itself is a super friendly environment, and comfortable place to work. As a project coordinator, the managers, and my specific mentor, have ensured I have the opportunity to go on a range of projects, and the last 6 months has been a great mix of shadowing, and getting involved in the projects, with the perfect mix of time for apprenticeship and real work.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Most definitely. As I have been working with multiple types of stakeholders, my communication skills, and ability to network effectively has increased massively. Through talking with a diverse range of people, and asking for help from different aspects of the businesses, my actuall project skills, excel skills, have also increased.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

As answered above, the programme is very organised and gives me time to learn my apprenticeship work, as well as getting stuck in to project work.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

A huge amount of support, I have regular one to ones with my mentors, and also the future talent team at Computacenter, who look after apprentices.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

A lot of support, there are regular webinars to work towards our presentation exams, and 2-1s with my training provider/manager.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I feel that it helps to consolidate the knowledge I learn from my day to day work, as well as see things from a different perspective. Any questions I need to ask which I don’t feel comfortable asking my manager, I can do so.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes multiple, there is multiple social events out with fellow apprentices, and apprentice outreach programs, where you can go and network with different schools etc.

Why?
The company is a friendly, exciting , and a collaborative place to work. There is several opportunities and routes to grow and improve your career. Even though it’s a big company, you don’t have imposter syndrome, and feel like a valuable memeber of a community.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Computacenter?
One tip I would give if you were to get the job is to speak to everyone you can, don’t be afraid to network. Everyone is welcoming, and you can make good friends in a short space of time. Networking will also allow you to get to know different people from different sectors of the business. Secondly in terms of the actual applying process, make sure you try and be as confident as possible, learn about the business as you will be asked questions on what you know about it, and make sure you understand the role you are applying for. Don’t be afraid as everyone is so welcoming and polite.
