Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

A day involves cost estimation, contract management, and project budgeting. I assess project feasibility, prepare tender documents, and monitor expenses. I conduct regular site visits ensure work aligns with financial plans. Collaboration with architects, engineers, and contractors is key to maintaining project efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy coming to work, knowing that not everyday is the same. It keeps you on your toes and there is always something youll be able to learn or develop both educationally and personally

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

My self confidence has drastically improved through networking with other like-minded individuals and undertaking various different exercises improving my personable skills.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

At work, you have clear progression goals with frequent meetings with manager to update and review these goals. Regarding University the course structure teaches you from the basics of construction to the finer details of quantity surveying.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

There is endless support from Skanska from various levels of professions, and not to mention the endless amount of resources on the Skanska intranet such as 'Skanska academy' to invest your time into for your own progression
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Everybody within the job role has studied the same knowledge, this is the greatest push you can have as an apprentice as no matter what the circumstance or question someone close to you will have the answer or be able to lead you into the right direction to understand the answer yourself.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Understanding the basics of construction is crucial to the role, although you are physically not doing the practical work yourself it gives you the wider knowledge to understand processes that the Subcontractors will be doing.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

At least once every 2 months i am able to attend networking events through Skanska, there are also additional webinars from external companies to help develop your knowledge. And yes we have a football group every Wednesday that all levels can join.

The values that Skanska carry mean everyone is included no matter how big or small you feel within the company, Skanska also offer various benefits to being an employee such as a great pension scheme and the ability to invest into the company and also be rewarded with shares of the company through the SEOP programme.

As long as you can give your best Skanska will be able to see this and be able to reward you for your hard work.
