Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Apprentice Paralegal in medical negligence consists of record requests, approaching solicitors, contact with clients particularly new enquiries.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy having the opportunity to earn while you learn. The experience of actual legal work allows me to visualise the things I learn during my studies.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have developed communication skills, attention to detail and how I stay on track.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
The study part of it can be quite difficult as there doesn't seem to be much communication from BPP, there is a lot of information I would have missed and have missed if I wasn't a part of a group chat with other students.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I am always supported with anything I need. There isn't a pressure to know everything straightaway and there is support and guidance given when I struggle with something.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
1/5
There isn't a lot of communication, and I struggle to get a response form BPP. I have heard this issue from other students too.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
My studies help me understand the law better and particularly help with terminology that I may not have seen before.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are a good bunch of people that take part in sports activities. Personally, I have taken part in a charity event which was lovely to be able to get to know new people and help out the vulnerable.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Irwin Mitchell to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I believe when people hear ' law firm' there is a huge stereotype about the type of place it is and people that work for it, so when starting to work for Irwin Mitchell I was preparing myself for the worst. I had read a lot about Irwin Mitchell and hadn't heard anything particularly bad, but I was cautious that it was the internet so I wouldn't know till I got there, however, Irwin Mitchell are everything they say they are, and I understand why they do have such a high reputation as a firm, I felt that people here truly do care about their clients and their success.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Irwin Mitchell?
Exercise good people skills, other skills can be taught as you go but having good people skills will definitely help as you will always have to communicate with someone so if you can present them well I think you will do well.
