Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I am currently working with the mechanical engineering team. Every 6 months or so i will be moving around to gain experience in all sectors ie, electrical. I check over drawings from architects ensuring the details for services are correct, I have created my own drawing for Unistrut plans.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I am really enjoying my programme so far. Joining BAM as an apprentice was the best decision I made. I have learnt so much and received so much support. I have also been interested in construction since school and BAM have given me the best opportunity to achieve my goal.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt many new skills working with BAM. My computing skills have improved greatly as I am using different applications. My people skills have increased due to meeting new people whether that be colleagues, clients or sub contractors.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Very well organised. I have an apprenticeship hard copy and computer copy of my programme i keep with me. Every 6 months or so I am moving around departments this includes; Mechanical, Electrical, Public health, Commercial Management and Planning. This is perfect for me as I can have a feel and understanding of all departments then go into the roll I find suits me best.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
The support I have received from everyone at BAM has been incredible. Everyone has helped me so much throughout my first 5 months. I have monthly apprenticeship meetings with my manager that gives us both the opportunity for feedback. With this being my first job within construction, BAM have made me feel so welcome to the industry.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive a lot of support from my college tutors and my assessor. I have regular meetings with my assessor and he has been amazing helping me prepare for my qualifications and EPA. At college if I am ever struggling with something my tutor is there to help straight away. My assessor replies to any emails quickly and has very informative with any question I have. Also, smart assessor is the app I use to send over OTJ hours and any evidence of work.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I feel the college work I do towards my qualification is extremely helpful towards my role. At college at the minute we are working on unit 22 which involves heat transfer. I work a lot with heat transfer at work so the college training is helping me with calculations and methodology. Also, at college we have worked on health and safety and this is very helpful when I attend site.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, we have quite a lot of social events at BAM, we have got one I am attending in August for a social activity with colleagues from work. An email gets sent to the northern region and you then reply to get tickets, I have received a lot of emails for social events.
