Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I assist engineers with work needed such as drawing support, organising and tracking to ensure submissions are due on time as well as helping to document and check work to ensure they're up to correct standards.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy my programme a lot. It is the best decision I've made and I'm so happy to have made it. It is actively changing my life for the better. Like anything, it obviously can be difficult but that's life.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt many new technical skills on software and learnt more about communicating in a formal manner for the corporate environment which has led me to many new opportunities that isn't directly related to my role but I am passionate about.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
My programme is very structured hence why I understand every day and important dates coming up. This allows me to work efficently.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
My support is mixed. If I ask for support, it's there otherwise support isn't given to you. I struggled with communication when I joined and found it hard to understand and ask for help but that has since changed.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
The support I receive is average. I'm lucky to have been given good teachers who truly care but I've heard stories of unwelcoming teachers - thankfully I don't have them.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
It's a mix. I understand more technical and engineering terms but the programme does have flaws. I don't understand why it's so maths heavy when in my role we have special software to calculate for us. I guess it's the theory that's important.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes. There are loads of extra curricular, I can't be at numerous places at once so I pick and choose what I feel at the time, sometimes I might want to be at Games club, sometimes I might want to play Pool. It's awesome.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Arup to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would and already have since it's an amazing company which genuinely will change your life, especially starting as young as I did. Definitely difficult but worth it for a successful future.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Arup?
Grades won't mean much. The amount of people applying to Arup is huge, you'd want to stand out by your personal hobbies, interests and past experience. Simply having a good grade in a subject doesn't mean anything, there are countless people who are like that. Be different
