Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am shadowing a Project Manager by attending virtual meetings, editing information recorded about the projects and observing how finance tracking happens. I record the actions of meetings and complete research tasks.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I feel motivated by learning on the job. I am enjoying the structure, the mix of theory and practical learning.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes - my understanding of project work has widened. I have practical experience now of how to adjust financial forecasts for a project or how a project change or enhancement would be carried out. I've developed my people skills - interacting with developers and stakeholders.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
I think the training provider, Realise, made the structure very clear. We have regular webinars and assessment points. I have some control over when, in my week, I complete apprenticeship learning and reporting.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I feel very supported. I ask questions every day and I can contact a range of about 10 people. I know who to contact with HR related questions, apprenticeship questions and project-related queries. Everyone I've met is very approachable and I can use Microsoft Teams to 'ping' someone and get a prompt reply.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I feel I have been well supported so far. I think the training materials are really well written. I've been offered extra revision / mock exam / practise assessment experiences.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I think there is quite a difference between what I'm learning academically and how the job actually is but I like comparing them and I think it's giving me a good background to how the role of Project Manager could be in another company. The training makes me reflect on my daily role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes, there are department social events. There are networking opportunities across the company and through HR apprenticeship initiatives.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Computacenter to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It's a really welcoming place to work. It's such a big company that there will be opportunities to jump sideways or progress. Most employees stay here for many years and seem very cheerful!
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Computacenter?
When you apply, describe your 'soft skills' like communication skills, your willingness to learn and be enthusiastic. Having an interest in tech would help too.
