Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
My role consisted of 3 main remits; Content, SEO and Reviews. I work on building out content pages for the website of the brand that I work on as well as updating content across the site. I also work on implementing any SEO recommendations that we receive from our agency. I also lead the topic of reviews for the website so I do a lot of work on implementing this with or review collection platform.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes I was given quite a lot of responsibility. I was responsible for Revamping and relaunching the content hub to make sure it is on-brand and user friendly. I was also responsible for boosting our SEO score to an A+ rating which helped to improve our brand SEO score at a global level. Reviews was another task I was responsible for as I had to implement reviews on most of the products on the websites and make sure that our top products each had 50+ reviews, this was a focus for the division from a global perspective.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I have learnt: how to use HTML, SFCC (Salesforce commerce cloud), content creation, content ideation, SEO implementations, working with agencies, creating briefs, presenting, task management, time management, reporting, asset creation with photoshop, keyword research, website performance analysis, slide creation.
I have also learnt many personal skills like communication and networking with colleagues in the office or at any socials that we may have. These may seem less important to hard skill but I feel that it has greatly contributed to my growth over this placement year.

Support and Guidance
How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I received a lot of support and guidance from my team members. My line manager and assistant manager were especially helpful. Any questions I had they were willing to support me with and if there was anything that I wanted to learn that they did not have much knowledge on they would guide me in the right place. The wider team were also very willing to support me with any questions I had, I never once felt that I could not go to someone and ask them about what they were doing and why they did things a certain way. I also received a lot of advice from senior members of the team at work socials or even during the office when we bump into each other. There was constant support from all levels.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture was quite chilled and relaxed, however the work load and fast pace environment can make it quite tense. There were regulars socials and team drinks to attend at local venues, colleagues would also go to sports classes with each other. The interns would regularly play football together or meet outside of work. I would describe it as a very extroverted company culture with most people enjoying networking and mingling with each other.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I enjoyed the placement year quite a bit. I feel that the work I did was very meaningful and I was give a lot of responsibility which was one of the things I was worried about going into such a large company. My team was full of fantastic people that were very supportive. The Company culture is great but as someone who keeps to themselves a lot its not ideal, however I do feel that being at this company has allowed me to break out of my shell more often. Overall the internship surpassed my expectations and I would go back to work there after I graduate.

What advice would you give to others applying to L'Oreal
The interview process is basically them getting to know you and how well versed you are in topics around the industry/role you are applying to. We had to do a presentation on a case study that we had received and doing research on the brand they use and the wider beauty industry helped a lot, don't be afraid to point out things you feel the brand is doing wrong and how you can improve them in your presentation. To prepare for day one I would just come with a pen and a notebook, there is A LOT of information that you will be receiving in the first few weeks and you need to write things down as you wont remember it all. Try and pick up as much as you can from the intern you are taking over from as the handover only lasts a week then you will have to rely on your line manager and wider team to help you with tasks.
