Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I am an executive officer, required to assist customers virtually over video call, in order to help them find employment and offer any support / provisions we are able to, to assist this process.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

Its exceptionally enjoyable as it works around my disabilities and supports me while I carry out my daily duties, which in turn has given me a much better overall quality of life and self confidence.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I expanded my skills when it comes to using technology and having the confidence to be proficient at my role. I have also learnt what its like to be a civil servant and the vital role we play.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is amazingly structured as it works around what is best for me. The one to one tutor provided makes sure any sessions are agreed in advance with my Team Leader and it provides plenty of preparation time.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employers' support has been nothing short of outstanding. From support to make sure I am in a comfortable position while working, bigger screen to assist with my vision and wheelchair accessible office space to allow free movement.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The support I receive suits my needs perfectly as she is always available to answer questions I may be unsure of and she makes sure to take the time I need so that I fully understand each assignment.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

This qualification, alongside practical working has been invaluable. Its given me the confidence to understand I am more than capable of doing this role to the absolute best of my ability without hesitation, whereas before I often doubted my own abilities.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

We have monthly team building sessions where we can get a better understanding of our peers and there is also a soccer programme during the spring/summer that I am planning to be part of.

Why?
The positive changes this has had to my life is immeasurable. I was recommended this by someone in this role already at a time in my life when I felt extremely low and defeated. The improvement to my mental health can be seen by all who know me.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Department for Work and Pensions?
Do it! You are more capable than you think and you most likely already have all the transferable skills and qualities that would allow you to thrive in this extremely rewarding role.
