Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
It’s a very fast paced environment. Dealing with customers, looking at financials, focusing on people and culture within the restaurant. I am part of a salaried team with 2 other managers and we manage over 90 staff in order to hit targets and achieve metrics
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
It’s taught me a lot and my knowledge and confidence has grown hugely. What I have learnt is invaluable. The support from upper management could be better. My achievements and success in my apprenticeship is important - This should be encouraged by upper management but I sometimes feel like I’m battling to get my contracted OTJ time. Got told the stores results are more important and I should focus on that

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
I’ve developed my communication skills and my people management skills. I’ve developed my training skills - everyone learns differently. I’ve learnt financial and operational skills and learnt how to manage the main assets when running a business

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The start of my apprenticeship was a shambles but the new CMDA unit leader at MMU has turned it around and the programme is much more structured and feels well organised. I have received a lot of support from the uni lead. I voiced my concerns several times about having assignments due in over the festive period but it only changed in year 4 and was better to manage.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
2/5
I get support from my current salaried team. I didn’t have any support when I got moved stores in the middle of my dissertation. Upper management should be more involved and invested in the progression of their apprentices. The support I receive has been uneven and I had more support from my new salaried team than any previously.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
This has improved over the years. At the start of the apprenticeship we didn’t receive a lot of support and our concerns fell on deaf ears. The last 12 months have been a lot better, the university has been supportive and invested in any concerns
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
The knowledge I have gained from the degree has massively helped me perform better in my role through both knowledge and confidence.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
Very rarely.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend McDonald's to a friend?
No
Why?
The culture in each restaurant is different. Everything stems from the top and if upper management are more concerned in profits than their staff wellbeing, that cascades down
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to McDonald's?
Don’t fall in with the clowns. 9/10 they make the job harder than it needs to be. It’s just burgers & chips
