Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Tasks supporting supply chain operations such as answering supplier queries, team meetings, project meetings, collaborating with other supply chain teams, completing university assignments, development opportunities such as shadowing or training sessions.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I enjoy the Supply Chain Leadership Degree Apprenticeship programme as it is varied and offers me an insight into all areas of the business. The skills and knowledge I learn during my programme will be applicable and useful to every stage of my career.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have developed many skills throughout my apprenticeship so far including leadership skills through project management and communication skills through emails and calls with external suppliers. I have many opportunities to learn and develop new skills whether this is through the university course, job rotations or apprentice initiatives.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
It is well organised. My workplace offers rotations into different supply chain teams throughout my apprenticeship so I have an opportunity to learn a variety of skills, tasks and roles which support my professional and academic development. The university course is structured into 2 month blocks for each module and I attend university on site for 2 days at the start of each block for the module delivery - the structure works well.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Above and beyond support. There is a great apprentice network at AstraZeneca and therefore a lot of support from other apprentices and the apprenticeship lead. Managers understand that the needs of an apprentice differ from those of a full time employee and therefore support with time allocation to university work and development opportunities.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
Good support. You will be allocated a progress reviewer who will monitor your progress throughout the course and offer support where needed. There is a team at Leeds Trinity called the Learning Hub who are brilliant, they offer support with assignments and help to improve your academic writing.
However, module leaders can often be hard to contact and it can be difficult to receive a response to any module specific queries.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The university course has a strong focus on project management within supply chain as it requires you to complete 3 workplace projects during the course of your apprenticeship. Through leading projects, you learn key project management skills and how to document each stage of a project through a project charter, proposal, report etc. These are highly applicable skills within a constantly changing and growing organisation.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
- Employee resource groups
- Apprentice events
- Networking events
