Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I support the Pilot Plant manufacture of drug substance for phase 3 clinical trials. My day involves work in many different areas, mainly through owning changes that are required to be made to the pilot plant. There is a good mix of both office work and plant work.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

It is hard work, I am constantly reminded of the benefits of this apprenticeships and the working environment I am in is developing me professionally day by day.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt so many new skills whilst being at AstraZeneca. I've learnt how to write protocols, qualify equipment, manage changes within the plant and controlling said change. All of this has helped me with my KSB's and I look forward to more varied and complex work.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

My programme is well structured for the role I am currently in. I am confident that I will secure all necessary KSB's I need in my company and most of them in my role at the moment.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a lot of support, I am allowed my one day a week to do my university work, additionally there is a dedicated work based learning support here in AstraZeneca that has helped me get exposure to other parts of the business.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

There is an adequate amount of support, however I do believe some modules can definitely be better run and supported
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Both aspects are developing at the same time and this gives me courage to perform better and strive for more complex and interesting work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are many activities inside and outside of work with friends and colleagues.

It is such a great environment that strives to put patients first, and so your work is meaningful. Additionally the culture here for growth and development is outstanding.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to AstraZeneca?
Go for something you enjoy and allow yourself to be enthusiastic if you apply to an apprenticeship at AstraZeneca. Express your desire to learn and develop, and be prepared to have a lot of work and to have that for a long time.
