Overall Rating

4 /5

The Overall Rating is the average of all the ratings given in each category. We take those individual ratings and combine them into one final score!

4/5 - Overview of Role
5/5 - Skills Development
3.4/5 - Structure and Support

Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Support tasks and checks to ensure overnight data processes have run and data is available to the business on time.
Developing new data solutions for new data feeds, and making request changes to existing feeds.
Working with the MAG data analyst team to evaluate priorities and what work is incoming against these.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
Variable! Level 4 was the most practical and useful in terms of skills developed as it was most relevant to my day to day role. Level 5 and 6 I have found a lot more inconsistent, some very useful content, but siloed into modules which do not feel connected. Level 5 and 6 has a lot less practical content, and more academic content which isn't necessarily useful day to day at work.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Developed skills including:
Coding skills - particularly Python
Data modelling - advanced Tabular model creation, M-code, partitioning, etc.
Data architectures - knowledge of common data architectures and use cases, appreciation of how to evaluate current architecture and make suggestions for possible improvements.
Data science and Machine Learning - different data science and machine learning techniques along with an appreciation of common use cases for when to use these. Experience of putting these into action via proof-of-concept exercises.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
As per previous answer I feel that the level 5 and 6 modules are disconnected. The marking for assessments for these is not well structured at all and is very difficult to interpret. There is some extremely useful content covered in the modules but the module content also includes things which are not covered in the assessments which takes up valuable delivery time. Delivery not always well structured either - lots of time needed to assess learning of new concepts - delivery time is stretched with just the content as it is, leaving very limited time for asking questions, or limited time to cover all content required for the assessments.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Lots - my line manager recognises the benefits of the programme in the quality of the work I have delivered whilst on course. My line manager provides me with all the support I need to try my best in the apprenticeship course.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
Lots of support - I would say that due to the course structure (please see previous answers re. structure of the course) that a lot of support is needed. More could be done here from a module perspective to align the content of each module with the course content as a whole, and also to provide more module time on the content required for the assessments - currently this is very limited.
The coaching structure does account for this in part. I have found coaching very useful, albeit the scope of this is restricted to module content and is unable to extend to mentoring (which it feels is the intention of the provider).
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Please see previous answer re. skills developed. My time on the course has helped me to apply the skills learned and developed in real life, either through proof-of-concept projects, or in my day to day work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Some activities, where I can I try to engage with these.
