PR & Communications Intern Review

On a day to day basic I helped the functioning of the Central Communications Team within the Professional Products division whilst reporting to the Senior Social Brand Manager. I worked across all brands therefore had the opportunity to be involved with campaigns, launches and ad hoc requests of L’Oréal Professionnel, Kérastase, Shu Uemura, Redken, Matrix, Biolage, Pureology & Pulp Riot.

I carried out a lot of independent work as well as team work and I had a lot of responsibility in managing my own areas of learning and developing weaknesses. During projects I was relied on regularly to organise key elements of logistics, gifting and branding and during my internship I was given more and more responsibility the more confident I got in everyday tasks and the more innovative projects I took on.

I developed efficient Communication within written and spoken work including email etiquette internally and externally, reports and scripted video content. My reading, understanding, and interpreting of data on multiple platforms and feeding key results back to the wider PPD Comms Team was a huge development of mine. Planning and organising were also key skills needed for the role and developed extensively due to my experience at L'Oréal.

I had weekly catch ups with my manger and when needed was supported with nearly all tasks. When support was not always available this is when my skills possibly developed the most due to having to overcome challenges therefore it was not necessarily a negative thing. We were also always offered further training through our online learning platform.

Everyone was friendly and supportive and helped provide good opportunities for development and learning. It was easy to network within different functions and divisions as long as you followed up with people and were keen on widening your knowledge of the broader business.

I have enjoyed my time here and developed my knowledge of how a large business functions internally and with external partners. It has been a useful experience and I have found it extremely valuable in both my personal and professional development.
